The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, over the weekend officially inaugurated the local Organising Committe (LOC) for the African Para Games, Accra 2023.
Speaking as a special guest of honour, the sector Minister indicated that the competition, the 13th of its kind will make Ghana the first African country to host and organise the 1st Africa Para Games as a separate regional multi Para sporting competition involving athletes with disability and impediments.
The sector Minister who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yagaba-Kubori Constituency, in the North East Region, challenged the newly inaugurated members
of the the LOC of the AfPC to set an enviable standards and records worthy of emulation.
In a related development, the MP cut a tape to signify the commissioning of the secretariat of the Africa Paralympic Committee (AfPC) in Accra-Ghana.
“I have no doubt at all that the chairman and his members will give off their maximum best for the nation to successfully host the thousands of athletes and team officials as well as coaches from the fitty-five (55) African countries,” the law maker emphasised.
He seized the opportunity to appeal to corporate organisations in Africa and globally to support the 2023 Paralympic Games.
For his part, the President of African Paralympic Committee, Sampson Deen, revealed that prior to the Inauguration International Federations have agreed to offer
Ghana, six (6) spots for the qualification to Paris.
“This will be a great opportunity for our Paralympic Athletes to take advqntage and be motivated ahesd of the games,” he stressed.
The event was graced by Paralympic athletes, officials, staff of the Sports Ministry as well as stakeholders of the sporting fraternity.
